Lasagna, eclairs and an unexpected one-month-to-go-reflection

IReally mixed feelings at this very moment. I can honestly say tonight was great. I had promised Charu (India) and Debrina (Indonesia) for a while that I would make lasagna and éclairs with them together and after postponing it x times, we finally managed. It had been yeaaaaaaaaaaaaars, but somehow we pulled it off.
In the meantime I could spend some quality time with them and learn more about weddings-that-last-for days in India and more about Indonesian tradition as well. I will never get sick of learning more about other cultures =3

Floor Party: takoyaki

Monday evening I had my very first floor party! ^_^

6月29日 たこぱ💓_2637
With other words: takoyaki (octopus dumplings) with all the units of my hall in the dorm. I was not really looking forward to octopus, but luckily we also made a sweet version with caramel and chocolate instead. And besides that, just a lot of sweets and chips. Gulp.

It was just a really nice evening talking, eating and some more talking. I really didn’t want to go back to my room in the end 🙂

Some pictures to remember ( a lot of peace signs :’) )

Dorm activity: dodgeball

Every Monday evening there is a dorm activity from 7pm. Most of the time it seems to be lectures, but last week the organizers had planned dodgeball!
Everyone was divided according to the floors and there was a price for the winning floor. Since there are a few girls of my volleyball on mine and my roommates wanted to go, there was nothing else to do than join and have fun! Continue reading

Team Activity (チーム活動) Numberrrr one

Lately there are more and more rules in the dorm, the new staff chànges things.
1. Suddenly there is an ‘International Day’ every month to improve the relationship between foreigners and Japanese.
2. From now on we have ‘English Time’ every week (don’t ask me about details, haven’t gone yet).
3.We’re supposed to talk English with our roommates between 6PM and 7PM daily.
4. We can’t have sleepovers and should be home by 11PM.
Furthermore we have a host family with whom we are supposed to meet up once a month and we have our monthly date with our JD-mate (buddy).
Oh and somewhere in between we have to squeeze our homework, our ISP (Independent Study Project) and who knows, a personal life?

– Yeah, I’m kind of nagging now, sorry 😀 – Continue reading

Volleyball – Spring Nomikai

Did I already write about the dorm’s curfew? I think not, or did I? There are a few things around here I don’t really appreciate and one of those things is the curfew. Every night we have to be back before 11, or else…
Up to now I was like ‘gulp? ‘Or else…’?’ and I filled in a form to let them know I’d be back late, or just made sure I was home in time, or just… didn’t go out when invited. By now there are just a few months left and I’m more than sick of it! Continue reading

New roommates!

Our dorm is divided into units with a common kitchen/living room and bathroom and is supposed to be shared between three Japanese students and one foreigner. It was one of many reasons I chose Fukuoka Women’s University, but also the reason I was quite nervous last week.

Since the new school year starts in April here, I also got three new roommates. For quite some time I had been wondering how they would be. Would they be scared of me, the foreigner? Would they even want to talk with me? Or wouldn’t they have any interest, like the previous ones? And what if they made the room dirty the minute they walked in?! Continue reading

Birthday in Japan! ^-^

Two weeks ago I turned 22! In Belgium January and June are exam periods, so the last years I hadn’t celebrated properly. Luckily, I got spared of exams on my birthday here, so I decided to throw a party!

At the dorm we have a common room at each floor (yay!), which has come in handy so many times! Together with Alexandra and Jarka, whose birthdays are around the same date, we made use of it again. For me, it was ‘old’ and new friends united. Some girls I know from Belgium (the Belgium girls, duh, but also some Japanese) and others I got to know here.. and although it has only been a few months, I feel like I got to know some of them quite well already.

Some people may like a wild party for their B-day, but not this girl 😉 Maybe you’ve already figured that I’m not really a party animal. Woops.  The ingredients of that night made a perfext mix: food, friends and time to talk. Continue reading

Monster in my room

[short story today] Yesterday the most HORRIFYING thing happened. I was just lalalalala studying and chatting with some friends, but it got kinda cold in my room so I wanted to turn on the heating. And at the moment I took the remote controller, I saw IT. A huge monster, just sitting on the wall, right above me!  Continue reading

October is at its end

October is at itss end and today I want to write about Canal City, my roommates and Halloween! So if you don’t sigh or roll your eyes at the idea of those topics, just keep on reading! 😉

CANAL CITY

Last week I finally met up with an ‘old’ friend of mine: Saori. We met in Leuven two years ago, while she was studying abroad, and we’ve kept contact up to now. So it was time to catch up, talk and explore Canal City together. It is a large shopping center of Hakata (where I saw the pretty lanterns last week). It was relaxing just to walk around and talk and watch all the pretty things! We did some shopping and when we passed fountains in the center they started to move on “Be our Guest” of Beauty and the Beast! Hah!
Apparently it’s every hour a ‘show’ and it was really pretty! I made some video’s of it, but I can’t seem to upload it…So you should go and watch it yourself! 😉 An hour later we passed by again and it was a nice French song about one of the most famous avenues. Guess before your curiosity forces you to click! Did you get it right? Now let’s sing along! Continue reading
